The Jewish Museum Will Move to Vesalgasse 5
The Jewish Museum of Switzerland is moving into a new, larger house at the Vesalgasse 5 in 4051 Basel. The new location will house the permanent and temporary exhibitions, the workshop and event rooms, the library and the office. The house was built in the 19th century as a tobacco warehouse and was later used as storage space. In the Middle Ages, the location was the cemetery of Basel’s first Jewish community. In Hebrew, cemetery is referred to as «Beit Chaim,» meaning «House of Life.» In this spirit, the new museum will bring Jewish culture to life in Vesalgasse 5.
